Closing the DevOps Skill Gap
The DevOps skills gap is a mismatch between the knowledge an employer needs to meet business objectives and the capabilities of the organization's employees. The World Economic Forum estimates that by 2025, 85 million jobs may be displaced by a shift in the division of labor between humans and machines, while 97 million new roles may emerge that are more adapted to the new division of labor between humans, machines and algorithms. On average, companies estimate that around 40% of workers will require reskilling and 94% of business leaders report that they expect employees to pick up new skills on the job, a sharp uptake from 65% in 2018. Closing the skills gap by aligning the current state of workforce with forecasted future needs is a complicated proposition. In this talk we will examine the causes of the DevOps skills gap as well as steps we can take to close it.
